Arrival day

Before Day 1. The old town is close to the airport, so settle in and keep the first evening on foot.Details
From the airport
Corfu airport sits right beside the old town, so the ride into the center is short by taxi or local bus. Planes come in low over the water, which makes for a good first look at the island.
By ferry
Ferries reach Corfu Town from Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland, and from ports in Italy. Routes and sailing days change with the season, so check ahead before you plan the day around one.
Taxi or car
Taxis are easy in and around the town, and the island is small. For the north and the west coast a rental car gives you the most freedom, but the village roads are narrow and winding, so drive slowly and book a small car.
Sun and shade
Late June afternoons are hot. Pack sunscreen, hats and water, go to the beach in the morning and find shade after lunch. On Day 1 you will walk the old town, so bring comfortable shoes.

Departure day

After the last day. The airport is very close to town, so the last morning can stay slow.Details
Leaving the island
The airport is a short ride from the old town, so you can have a slow breakfast and a last walk before you go. Still, leave a generous margin, because summer flights are busy.
The rental car
If you hired a car, return it before your last evening if you can. The roads near the old town are narrow and parking is tight, and it is easier to take a taxi to the airport.
By ferry
If you leave by ferry for the mainland or Italy, check the sailing and the check-in time ahead, as they change with the season, and allow time to reach the port.
A last stop
Pick up a bottle of kumquat liqueur or a box of the local sweets in the old town as a gift. A last glass of ginger beer on the Liston makes a good goodbye.
