Arrival day

Before Day 1. Venice is best met slowly, so keep tonight easy.Details
From the airport
The airport is on the mainland, a short trip across the lagoon. A water bus or a shuttle bus takes you into the city, and a water taxi is the way to arrive by boat. There are no cars in the old city, so everything from here is on foot or by water.
Settling in
Check-in is usually in the afternoon. Bridges and steps are everywhere, so a small bag is a gift. The vaporetto, the water bus, is the city bus: check ahead how tickets work, and ask your hotel for the easiest way in from the nearest stop.
First evening
Walk with no plan, cross a bridge or two and get a little lost, which is part of it. Have an early supper and save your energy: Day 1 starts early at St Mark’s, when the square is quiet.

Day 1. Dorsoduro and San Giorgio and the Giudecca

Departure day

After the last day. Work back from your flight and keep the last morning slow.Details
Check-out
Pack the evening before. If your flight is later in the day, ask the hotel to hold your bags, so you can wander the last canals with your hands free.
To the airport
The airport is across the lagoon on the mainland. A water bus, a shuttle bus and a water taxi all go there. Check the schedule the night before and leave extra time, since bridges and steps slow you down with bags.
If you have a few hours
Have a last coffee standing at a bar, then walk the canals of Cannaregio or sit by the water. The quiet corners are best before the day-trippers arrive.

Questions people ask

When is the best time to visit Venice?

By average weather from 2021 to 2025, April, June and September to October are the most comfortable months for walking around Venice. This plan is built for late September, which is one of the best months. Crowds and prices change through the year, so check them before you book.

How many days does this plan cover?

It covers 5 days in Venice, planned for late September. Each day is built around a small number of stops, with room to rest.

Who is this plan for?

It was planned for couples. The pace and the places reflect that, so check it fits how you travel.

Is anything on this plan booked?

No. Places marked "book ahead" need a reservation. Hours, prices and availability change, so confirm before you go.

Can I plan my own days like this?

Yes. Archie drafts a day by day plan for your dates and takes your pace, the weather and who is travelling into account. You can start one from the Archie app.

Can I change this plan?

Yes. It is a starting point you can change to fit your own trip: swap a place, add a day or move the pace.

How much walking is there?

Each day has about 2.0 to 8.3 kilometers between its stops, and 18.0 kilometers in all across 5 days. A short hop is a walk and a longer one a ride. Distances are straight-line estimates, so allow extra for the streets.
