Arrival day

Before Day 1. Santa Barbara is small and easy, so keep the first evening light.Details
Getting here
The city has its own small airport, and many visitors fly into Los Angeles instead and drive about two hours north along the coast. The train from Los Angeles also stops near the beach. A car helps for Montecito and the gardens, and the downtown and waterfront stops are easy on foot.
Settling in
Check-in is usually in the afternoon. Ask your hotel about parking, since downtown lots and the streets near the beach fill up, and check ahead on any shuttle that runs along the waterfront.
First evening
Walk down to the water, watch the light fade over the harbor and eat early. Day 1 starts at the Courthouse, which is quietest in the morning.
