Arrival day

Before Day 1. Days 1 and 2 are in Louisville and mostly short rides. Days 3 and 4 are drives, so a rental car or a driver makes them simple.Details
Flying in
Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport lies south of downtown, and a rideshare or a taxi takes you to the center. If you want a car for Days 3 and 4, ask when you book whether you can pick it up on the morning of Day 3.
The order of the days
Day 1 stays downtown on foot, Day 2 uses short rides between old neighborhoods and the racetrack, Day 3 is a drive south to Bardstown and Day 4 is a long road south to Mammoth Cave. Check the road and the weather before both drives.
Bourbon country
The area around Bardstown has distillery tours and tastings. Check ahead and book ahead, since tours can be full. Do not drive after tasting: arrange a ride or a designated driver before you go.
What to wear
Summers are hot and damp and winters are cold, with storms in spring. Bring shoes for walking, a rain jacket and a warm layer. A light jacket helps in the cave, which stays cool. Day 1 starts in Louisville, so settle in the evening before.

How much walking? On foot, about 0.2 to 0.9 miles a day, and 157.2 miles by car in all across 3 days. Distances are straight-line estimates, so allow extra for the streets.
